THE SUN FACTS

- The Sun accounts for more than 99% of the mass of the solar system and due to this, the sun exerts immense gravitational pull to keep the planets rotating around it in definite elliptical orbit.

- The Sun is the major source of energy of the solar system. The energy is provided by the nuclear fusion reaction, that converts hydrogen into helium in the core of the sun.

- The glowing surface of the sun that we see is called as Photosphere. Above the Photosphere is the red coloured Chromosphere and beyond it is the magnificent corona, which is visible during eclipses.

- Superimposed on Sun's white light are hundred of dark lines called Fraunhofer lines. Each line indicates some elements present in the solar system.
